This is an example of how a soccer club can forge a lasting bond with a community. Free admission to the match. Support local charities and community organizations. A memorable game day atmosphere. A team that demonstrates a fighting spirit.
These are the principles that The Borough FC established when it was formed less than two years ago and, with a second successive promotion within reach, these are the same principles that will guide the club in League1 Ontario’s Premier Division, should it reach that lofty goal at the end of this week.
At the club’s final home match of the season this past Sunday, The Borough FC drew a record attendance to Scarborough’s Birchmount Stadium, its fans eager to watch the team draw a step closer to its stated ambition of reaching the Premier Division.
And although the club could only manage a scoreless draw against its opponent on the day, York United Academy, the fact that automatic promotion is still within its grasp is a credit to President and Founder Andrew Ornoch, his technical staff, and his team of volunteers, who worked tirelessly throughout the past two seasons to set a high bar for the club in its efforts both on and off the pitch.
Anchored by a prominent and very successful youth development program, The Borough FC is committed to creating a player pathway for young athletes from Scarborough and the surrounding region. That commitment, combined with a sustainable business model, are the foundations for the future growth and longevity of the club and its key partners.
As a Scarborough resident, I’m very proud to have played a small part in helping to share The Borough FC’s evolution as a club with the mainstream media over the past two seasons and I’m looking forward to continuing our collaboration in 2026.
